FUTURE FRIDAYS - Lina Inverse (Slayers)

The first installment of "Future Friday"!! Ok, so it's a bit late... I actually had this started Thursday evening but my Friday was so busy to the point that I never had any time to finish this up...
Least I'm living up to my "always late" habit > o <
I shall try not to have this be an issue...
Anyways, in these articles, I'm going to talk about costumes and characters that I want to get to in the future- whether it's the near future or far off.

The costume I'm going to talk about today is actually one that should be tackled and finished sometime in 2016! I have the wig and the start of worbla stock for armor... and who else would it be other than the spunky sorceress- Lina Inverse from Slayers!

I always tell people: "I'm an old school cosplayer."
Meaning, many of my favourite characters stem from 80s, 90s, and up to about 2005 releases of anime. They're all sentimental because I grew up with them.
Slayers is no exception; I grew up ADORING Slayers when I was younger. Lina was always one of those characters who you could instantly connect with and cheer on throughout the entire series.
Lina is funny, confident, strong, and... even a bit manipulative- doing all she can in this guy's world as the most famous sorceress across the land. I mean... to get a glimpse of her character- you can just watch the beginning of the first theme~


Another reason I LOVE Slayers is the music- the theme songs are all amazing and catchy. Also totally 90s. The [Next] and [Try] seasons where my favourite themes (specifically [Next]!) but also serve as the reference I'm using for Lina.
In those 2 seasons, Lina's pauldrons (shoulder armor) have different detail with larger gems.

I have been wanting to make Lina for so long and now I feel I'm at the right skill level to do her. To pump myself up, I even bought the first 3 seasons of Slayers on DVD at a convention back in February. It was totally worth it and I plan to marathon the crap out of it before next year since it has been admittedly a long time since I've sat down and watched some episodes of the heroic Lina Inverse and friends. I'm hoping to gather a Gourry and Zelgadis when I am Lina... maybe Amelia? I hope!

Aside from Sailor Moon and Kaitou Jeanne, Lina has been another "magical girl" that I adore, however, she doesn't fit that 'magical girl' basic criteria like the other 2. I mean, she has magical powers... but she's a SORCERESS.

Not a future Queen of the Moon or the reincarnation of Joan of Arc- both of which have to transform into their powerful forms.

Lina just is. And... that /may/ make her a bit cocky...

Lina is going to be such a fun costume to make and a fantastic character to be. I'm super excited for her and I hope others are too. My tentative plan is to debut her for Midoricon 2016... but that may get bumped to Colossalcon 2016. Depends on how I am doing next year ^^
