A Reflective Look At My Time In Cosplay (Thus Far)

Hey guys! Long time, no read!

Admittedly, I sort of forgot I had a blog... and then, when I remembered, it just so happen to be where I realized that my laptop is complete and utter crap. Writing on any word document or blog site was downright terrible; what should take only 30 minutes would take an hour and 20 minutes due to my computer glitching.

But, I cleaned up my laptop as best as I could and, so far tonight after getting a 4 page final paper done, nothing detrimental has happened to stress out my writing process. So... I think I can start doing blog posts again- or at least for tonight.

So... as I shared on my cosplay page on December 13, the following picture brought forth an interesting idea to share a sort of self-reflective look on how I cosplay, how I view cosplay for myself, and all sorts of things related to that. Here is the picture I'm talking about:

This picture was brought to my attention a long time ago but it was shared again recently by the Facebook page, Heroes United Against Cosplay Bullying. Though I am not 100% positive on who made this brilliant picture, it has been shared by many cosplay pages and I shared it yet again, as stated, on December 13.

Which brings me to my interesting story I'm about to tell. Please read every word so as to not be confused by who I am now... I'm admitting some things about myself that I have worked past and do not represent anymore:

My Start In Cosplay
In order to understand my story, you have to know where I started. I didn't even know of the term "cosplay" at first and I don't even remember when I first learned it. I just know there was a time when I didn't know and now I do. I didn't go to my first convention until August 2010 and I was closet cosplaying all 3 days.
By the summer of 2011, I was a fresh out of high school, had finally opened my own bank account, and had a substantial amount of graduation money to spend (that, yea, I probably should have saved for college; but hindsight is 20/20 right?). And what was I looking to blow it on?
A convention.
Of course.
Ikasucon 2011 would be the first convention I went to with just my friends (no "adults", or- uh, adultier adults). My first time buying my own badge, booking my own hotel, going to an out-of-state convention, my first "homemade" cosplay, and... unbeknownst to me, my first cosplay competition.

I had taken half a year of "clothing and textiles" in high school so I knew the basics of a sewing machine but I did not own one- and I wouldn't own one until Christmas later that year. So I worked with my neighbor- a pretty decent seamstress- and made my first 'real cosplay'... or at least the one I equate it to: Miku Hatsune!
I was super excited to cosplay Miku- aside from the fact I did enjoy her and her songs, I knew she would be recognizable and I could meet so many more people this way than I did in 2010.
I went with 3 other friends and had just a blast during the first day of Ikasucon.

Then the Saturday rolled around and the fun didn't stop- I met even more Vocaloid fans and got to waltz with a Kaito in the dealer's room. I loved it.
We were just wandering around as a group when we found the pre-judging for the cosplay competition. The door was open, no one was in there being judged, and- at this time- it was just a walk in registration. So we did. We thought "why the heck not!"
We had no plans going in to Ikasucon to enter the competition- it wasn't until that day that we thought about it.

Upon entering, we were charismatic and excited. Two of us in the group were around for the construction of the costumes so we spoke what we could on them, letting the judges know that we had help and/or didn't make them ourselves.
We left as we came in- just happy to be there and talk about cosplay (and Vocaloids).
When we came back for the competition, we found we were called up at the awards ceremony for a Judge's Award. We were super happy and shocked. This little recognition of our efforts is what pushed me and my cosplay partner since, Ragdoll Prints, into cosplay construction even more.

Cosplay Competitions- 2011-2014
We never entered any other convention's cosplay competition aside from Ikasucon. We figured that, since it was our start and we felt most comfortable there, we would stick with there.
In 2012, we won Honorable Mention for our Panty & Stocking group (no full group photo available, so here is me and Panty)
In 2013, it was just Ragdoll Prints and me as Sakuyamon & Beelzemon to win another Judge's Award:
And in 2014, it was another group effort with our Black Rock Shooter (the OVA version) gang winning a runner-up spot in 'Large Construction' for obvious reasons:
These small wins motivated and pushed me. The win in 2012 was what made me do Sakuyamon, and then Sakuyamon made me want to do Black Rock Shooter. I was in the mind set of "bigger and better" in order to win.
There was my first red flag but I didn't think anything of it.
While that was part of my mind set, I also was cosplaying characters I do love and relate to- not just for the shock and awe factor of attention.

The Loss In 2014 And 2015
While my BRS group did take home a win at Ikasucon in 2014, I had the courage to enter another convention's competition in the March of 2014 (about 4 months before Ikasucon).
I brought Sakuyamon with me to Animarathon 2014. I was positive that I'd bring home something for my awesome Digimon- but I was wrong. I left Animarathon without any award and this severely affected me.
I began to equate my loss to "oh, well I didn't do well in the judging. I got nervous so I didn't really tell them all that went into it." Instead of the fact that I was up against cosplayers who brought costumes with craftsmanship that just out-shined my own- I wasn't going to win on nostalgia alone.
While this loss did loom in the back of my mind, I continued to meet amazing people who were just excited to see a Digimon cosplayer during a time where Digimon was almost forgotten. This cheered me up and I brushed it off.

In 2015 (this year, of course), I entered at 2 conventions that were not Ikasucon- Shumatsucon and Animarathon again- this time as Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne for both.
I left both these conventions with no awards. Though my skit group at Animarathon did an amazing job (and probably would have won the skits category if it wasn't for pesky audio problems), I was very concerned now.
Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne is where I thought I made a vast amount of improvement as a craftsmanship cosplayer. I am super proud of this cosplay and was almost positive on some sort of recognition- but there was none. I almost equated this to "well, no one knows who Jeanne is" but then I stopped.
I knew it was because, in comparison to the craftsmanship shown at these conventions, I was not of a winning type. And that was fine.

But then the real punch to the gut hit at Ikasucon 2015... where Ragdoll Prints and I entered as Black Lady and Queen Nehelenia.

Not for the fact that I thought my Nehelenia cosplay was super amazing, but for the idea that I was not prepared to receive nothing at Ikasucon- a place where we've placed somewhere for 4 years.
But... by this time, I knew what was wrong.
It was not my craftsmanship- though that could always use improving and I'm making efforts every day to put my best skill forward.
No.
It was myself.
I had become so concerned with any sort of winning recognition that I forgot the very feeling that brought me into the pre-judging rooms in the first place.
The fun. The excitement. The will to just talk about a costume that you put so much work into and to just be happy to be there to represent your character.
I forgot that every loss is not a sign that you suck as a cosplayer and should discourage you. And I wouldn't even consider them a "loss".

No.
I chose to rethink what an award was.
An award to me now is a small declaration that- during that particular con, against those particular craftsmanship contestants in your particular category, and under the evaluation of that particular group of judges- you presented a costume that was done well enough to be brought back on stage and congratulated for it.
And, if you do not get a small declaration that contest, it is not that you failed. You had the guts and determination to go up there in the first place. You should take every contest- win or lose- and use that as motivation to keep going.

Never stop improving. Never stop thinking about what you could do better but also never over-criticize yourself!
I entered Nehelenia again at Matsuricon 2015 and did not place. And, by that time, I thought nothing of it. I knew what I wanted to improve (the jewelry and wig) but I also knew that I am super proud of this costume and probably would never enter it into another competition. I've contemplated remaking it entirely but... I also told myself I wouldn't. We'll see where that leads me into the future...

But, I gave myself a limit of "enter 1 costume twice and that's it". Basically sitting myself down and saying: Stop trying to beg for an award on one particular costume and put forth that effort into making another banging costume. And, if I desperately want to know what I should improve on with that particular costume, go ask the judges after the competition. Majority of contests will allow you to see and/or have your judging sheet and talk with you.

My View On Cosplay (In Regards To The Picture)
And this whole story is only part of my self-reflected response about the picture shared!!

But, TL;DR version:
1) I don't view my "likes" on my cosplay page as "fans" and I don't even feel I have fans (nor do I really want any). The only reason I get upset about the loss of likes is because I feel like I lost people to talk to and share cosplay progress with. I feel I lost friends or acquaintances that I would love to hear from. I view my "likes" as people to connect with because I love meeting new people. I'm a rather social person.

2) Awards should only be used as means to motivate yourself when you are stuck in a place where you don't feel you're good enough. Awards should inspire you but never tear you down. And I do know that they can be somewhat important credential plugs when it comes to running your own cosplay commission business but please don't ever become obsessed with winning.

3) It doesn't matter how many cosplays you can do in a month or year. Don't feel bad if you can only do one a year! Cosplay is expensive and no one should expect you to pump them out like a factory.

4) Unless you're a cosplay judge at a contest or people openly ask you for critique on a costume, you can only really judge yourself. And don't force your personal expectations for yourself on to others. Not everyone cosplays for the same reason you do.

5) You should definitely look into trying new things and broadening your horizons. Try to learn all you can- mess with worbla, hand-sew some beads, style a wig. But, above all, don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out right the first time (or first few) and don't feel bad if you just don't care for that aspect. You don't have to be a master in everything. Buy your accessories from a store on Etsy, commission a prop maker, or buy a pre-styled wig. Don't let the pressure of having to be able to sew an elaborate ballgown AND make a suit of armor get to you- because you don't have to. I'm all for trying new things and testing yourself but don't sweat it if you find it's just not for you!

6) Don't feel you have to spend $200+ on every costume. The cost will come as you do. I rarely pay attention to the total cost or set a budget (which I probably should honestly). Don't think you have to use the best fabric- you'd be surprised at some of the awesome work I've seen done with broadcloth or costume satin. And don't feel you have to do something crazy elaborate or detailed- do simpler costumes, break up your routine if that's the case. A bunch of simpler costumes may motivate you and allow you to improve without you realizing it. It is interesting to keep track of your investments though- such as materials- cause you can always order them again for another project if you enjoyed them!

Definitely: make friends, make memories, push yourself, and have fun!!
While I will always be a craftsmanship competing cosplayer, I will always remember this moving forward!!

My hopeful next Ikasucon competition costume will be Medusa from Petshop of Horrors:
(And I didn't pick her because she was "bigger and better" than Nehelenia... but primarily for the fact I LOVE her; I love Petshop of Horrors ((if you've never read it, do it. Or if you want to watch it, they only did 4 episodes of the series but Medusa's was one of them!)); Ikasucon is small enough where I can comfortably move around in a snake tail; and I really want to showcase some Matsuri Akino realness.)

FUTURE FRIDAYS - Lina Inverse (Slayers)

The first installment of "Future Friday"!! Ok, so it's a bit late... I actually had this started Thursday evening but my Friday was so busy to the point that I never had any time to finish this up...
Least I'm living up to my "always late" habit > o <
I shall try not to have this be an issue...
Anyways, in these articles, I'm going to talk about costumes and characters that I want to get to in the future- whether it's the near future or far off.

The costume I'm going to talk about today is actually one that should be tackled and finished sometime in 2016! I have the wig and the start of worbla stock for armor... and who else would it be other than the spunky sorceress- Lina Inverse from Slayers!

[Nerd Talk] Past Cosplays: Miku Hatsune

Hello, precious followers!

So, I shared a status on my Facebook about how I can't effectively do "Throwback Thursdays" since I don't have enough costumes to do it every Thursday- I'd be done in about 2 or 3 months!
Instead, I was going to do some Nerd Talk articles about past costumes I've done: how they were made; their significance (be it- the point in my cosplay life, the character itself etc); and all other points that may pertain to them!
I'm going from 2011 to now and posting as many pictures as I can so bare with me for some may have more photos than others.

First up- my first ever competition costume- Miku Hatsune, the Vocaloid

[Nerd Talk] Cosplay & People Who Just Don't Get It

Hello my precious followers!

How's life? I hope it's going well for you. I have a little over 2 weeks left in the semester and I couldn't be anymore ready to start summer.
Summer work, summer cosplays, summer temperatures, summer events- just SUMMER!

Anyways...
I have been diligently preparing for finals while working here and there on cosplay- mainly the evil (but beautiful) Queen Nehelenia from the Sailor Moon SuperS arc. I've been slowly tearing apart one wig and sewing wefts into the main wig. I just got my buns from Arda in the mail and I'm excited to put those on to see how it looks.

I also recently received my re-ordered white and blue fabric for Weiss Schnee from RWBY. When I ordered it the first time, the white was too yellow tinted and the blue was too blue. Now- everything is perfect and I can soon begin work on that... well, after Nehelenia's dress is done.

BUT I DIDN'T COME HERE TO TALK ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING- I CAME HERE TO JUST TALK.

Introduction: 25 (Nerdy) Facts

Alright- as promised, here is my Introduction post!

I plan to turn some of this into a video as well with my room-mate for the Freaks of a Feather YouTube channel so, keep on the look out for that sometime. I'm sure it will be loads funnier than this textual version.

Some of these facts are pretty basic and generic in the beginning but they're essential to a proper introduction!
Let's get started~

1) Name?
As most know, my cosplay name is Taka Kagaku. You don't have to use the full name; Taka is fine. ^^

2) Birthday?
     May 15, 1993

3) Hometown/state?
I'm from Ohio- born and raised here. I live in Columbus during the school year and then I'm back home for summer and breaks. I don't live in my legitimate hometown anymore (the place where the school I attended for 13 years and graduated from is) but I only live about 5-10 minutes South of it.

4) First manga/anime?
Well, the anime I instantly say was my first is Sailor Moon. It's the one I remember the most of as a child. But, I also know that- at around the same time- I was watching Pokemon, Cardcaptors, and Digimon. But, Sailor Moon had the biggest and longest lasting impact on me.
As for manga, I don't recall ever reading a manga until I was in about 5th or 6th grade and it too was Sailor Moon.

5) Favourite manga/anime?
Sailor Moon is no contest; in both anime and manga, I adore it. But... because it holds such precedence over my character, I don't think it's fair to even include that. It's just one of those "givens" about me. So for "favourite anime", I have to say Elfen Lied- I've seen it like 4 or 5 times, 2 or 3 times in both English and Japanese. For "favourite manga", that's a tough one. It's a tie between Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Petshop of Horrors.

6) First convention?
My first convention was Matsuricon in 2010. It was about 2 or 3 weeks before I started my senior year of high school and I went with my best friend whom has been my cosplay partner ever since.

7) First cosplay?
Ugh... well, I didn't know what the term "cosplay" was when I did my first "cosplay" which was Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service. It was for Halloween so I don't know if it counts much. But, my first "cosplay" in which I knew it was such was Nana Osaki from NANA. Which, within that weekend, I also did Eiri Yuki from Gravitation and Taion version Ruki from the J-Rock band, the GazettE. The only picture that really survived of my cosplays of that weekend was of Taion Ruki... so here you go- I'm sorry.

8) First competitive cosplay?
That would be the Vocaloid, Miku Hatsune, at Ikasucon 2011.

9) How long have you been sewing?
I didn't get my own personal sewing machine until Christmas of 2011- so it was after Ikasucon 2011. I was going over to a neighbor's house who did all my sewing and I observed while also serving as the mannequin since they were my costumes. So my first 100%-sewn-by-me costumes didn't happen until March 2012. So this is going on my 4th year sewing. I took half a year of "Clothing & Textiles" in my Senior year (January - May 2011) so I knew the basics and was comfortable with a machine by the time I got one.

10) How many competitions have you been in?
I have participated in 7 cosplay competitions for craftsmanship and my first one for skits this year. In terms of different conventions I've competed at, it's only been 3.

11) How many awards have you won?
I have won 4 awards out of the 7 competitions I've been in- and they're all at Ikasucon. 2011 Judge's Award, 2012 Honorable Mention, 2013 Judge's Award, and 2014 Runner-up Large Construction.

12) What has been your favourite costume and why?
This is a tough one... cause, each costume gives me different emotions and memories. It's a tie between Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne (debuted January 2015), Sakuyamon (debuted July 2013), and Black Rock Shooter (debuted August 2014).

<-- Jeanne is because of the sheer reaction of other people. That series is a more obscure magical girl series from the late 90s and it didn't have as large of a lasting impression like Sailor Moon. It's one of those "you'd have to be really dedicated to the magical girl scene" to remember or even know about. I have nearly cried every time someone recognized who I was because their way of recognizing is amazing. It's been a mixture of sheer fangirling and shock. I went in making this costume with the thoughts of "wow, I can't wait to finish her. I'm so excited" and "gosh, no one is going to know who I am... I mean, it's ok but darn". And I've been proven wrong on that second thought at least once at every convention I wear her to.

Sakuyamon--> is because she was a "dream cosplay" of mine since I was little. She was my first experience making armor and a prop that was a bit more extreme than what I've done previously. She also has a lot of the nostalgia factor to her similar to Jeanne- the reactions to her have been amazing. Since Digimon Tamers was my favourite season (and Renamon my favourite Digimon line), I felt immensely proud to finish her and wear her. Sadly, I think she may only be able to take 1 more wear before it's time to remake her.

<--Black Rock Shooter was sort of another "dream cosplay" with just the prop alone- the Rock Cannon. It was my first time making a prop 80-90% by myself. My dad had helped me with previous props at least 60-70% of it so it was a challenge for myself to prove that I can do something as ridiculous as a 5ft tall gun-cannon that lights up. For sewing, it was my first time doing lining in a jacket... and well, my first time making a hooded coat actually. I plan to remake the coat and boot covers in the future but that cannon is my baby.

13) What has been your least favourite costume and why?
Oof, I have 2... and 1 of which is a bit surprising for most people to hear about.
     Elsa and Sailor Moon.

<-- Elsa is because I had never ever made a dress like her's before (or a dress ever) and I was also doing it as a 'spur of the moment' decision. Which was both refreshing and not a good idea for me- I was up until 5AM the day of the convention I was going to wear her to. The only parts of that costume that was I most proud about was the bodice with all the beading I did- but, even then, it needed refitted-; I have a really nice lace front wig (my first); and the shape of the end of my train was nicely rounded. The skirt was bulging in places it shouldn't; the train wasn't attached as well as it could have been; the sleeves were itchy and just utter poop- so yea, I could go on. I actually scraped most of that costume and turned the bodice into my "Alternative Elsa" cosplay.

"Revival" Sailor Moon; Ikasucon 2012
Proto-Moon; Colossalcon 2014
Sailor Moon is the one people are shocked by. She was one of my first ever costumes I made all by myself in 2012. I'm grateful for trying her then because I was able to find so many Sailor Scout tutorials that I use to this day but... I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't make my base the typical way people do (the Green Pepper skating pattern)- I /tried/ but I noticed the pattern was too small for me and, at the time, I had no idea how to make it bigger. So I used a super long, stretchy T-Shirt, added the "bust armor", and sewn the shoulders and collar to it. I made my skirt attached to the hip-roll and it just slipped on over the shirt- I had to keep pulling the end of the shirt down since it kept rolling up.
She went through a "revival" later that year- mainly new glove ringlets. And then she was scraped and re-made into the Prototype Moon in 2014. She is still not 100% satisfactory as Proto-Moon but she is close. I have to remake the cape, touch up the mask, and see if I can do anything to help fit the boots better.

14) What costumes do you have planned for the rest of the year?
For Ikasucon in July, I'm calling that my Sailor Moon Weekend. I will hopefully be doing Super Sailor Moon for Friday & Sunday (if not the "Super fuku", then it will be the original first manga/Crystal fuku) and I will be Queen Nehelenia on Saturday.
For Midoricon in September, that is our RWBY Weekend. I'll be doing various forms of Weiss Schnee all weekend. Saturday (and maybe Sunday), I will be the original battle Weiss. Friday will be a casual cosplay and MAYBE swimsuit Weiss if the weather is appropriate.

15) Do you already have costumes planned for next year?
     Hahahaha kind of?
I made a list of costumes I'd like to get to in 2016 as well as a list of conventions I would like to go to. All of it, of course, is wishful thinking-
Ohayocon - J-Rock costume; I'm caught between about 3 ideas at the moment.
Animarathon - Seira Hoshikawa from Daybreak Illusion
Colossalcon - between Kei from Pretear or Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho
Ikasucon - possibly the W.I.T.C.H. group; I'll be Cornelia
Midoricon - Lina Inverse from Slayers

16) Time for some general nerdy questions; what is your favourite video game?
     On what platform?
GameBoy/DS - Pokemon; favourite Pokemon game- Ruby
Computer - Touhou 6: Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil or Skullgirls
Playstation - Spyro The Dragon or Mortal Kombat

17) How many figures do you own and of what?
I don't own many actual like "figma" type figures- I have mostly Pop! Vinyls. I don't have many figures that I want to buy because they tend to be too expensive for me to even try to rationalize dropping that much money on them. But I'll count all of them- 12.
Taomon (Digimon Tamers), mini Kyoko Sakura (Madoka Magica), nendoroid Black Rock Shooter, mini Sailor Moon, Reshiram (Pokemon Black/White), Weiss Schnee (RWBY), and Lily the Vocaloid.
Pop! Vinyls: Loki (Avengers), Elsa (Frozen), Michonne (Walking Dead), Marceline (Adventure Time), and Maleficent

18) How many posters do you have and of what?
Haha... HAHAHA. This is going to be fun considering I collect posters. I love posters- if my walls are barren, it drives me nuts.
I have mostly music posters in my room at the moment but the living room is where all the fandom posters are and I have about 46 posters or clippings up on my walls.

In the living room, I have: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Angelic Layer, Black Rock Shooter, DN Angel, Big Hero 6, Vampire Knight, DeathNote, Suckerpunch, Loki (Avengers), Sailor Moon, Elsa (Frozen), RWBY, Lucy (Elfen Lied), Kingdom Hearts, and FullMoon O Sagashite in terms of fandom. I have a Paramore, Ashley Purdy (Black Veil Brides), and Lady Gaga poster out here because there wasn't enough room for them in my room.

My room has: Renee Phoenix (Fit For Rivals; signed by the band), One Ok Rock (signed), Icon For Hire (signed), Amy Lee (Evanescence), Exist Trace tour towel + photo cards (framed and signed), Exist Trace clipping, 3 the GazettE posters/clippings, 12012, SuG, D'espairsRay, MUCC, Nightmare, Antic Cafe, 2 Phantasmagoria posters/clippings, D=OUT, D, Versailles, ScReW, BORN, Penicillin, Dir en Grey, Maya (LM.C), and a Fixer (j-rock related webcomic) poster.

19) How many manga do you own? How many anime DVDs?
I own more manga than anime because I like to read it over watch it. If I do buy the anime, it's because I REALLY like the series.
I own 108 volumes of manga- some of those are omnibuses so it condenses the number of actual books down.
I own 6 complete season or seasons of anime on DVD and 14 singular anime DVDs. I have 15 different anime titles among that. If that makes sense... I'd give a list of what I have but that just seems unnecessary.

20) 5 favourite characters that AREN'T anime or manga?
     Just 5? Ughhh... ok well...
     Selina Kyle/Catwoman from Batman
     Cornelia from W.I.T.C.H.
     Loki from the Avengers
     Babydoll from Suckerpunch
     Ember from Danny Phantom

21) 5 favourite Disney characters?
Again with just 5... why? Fine.
     Kida from Atlantis
     Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet
     Mulan
     Elsa from Frozen
Gogo Tomago from Big Hero 6

22) Favourite god/goddess from Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythology?
     Favourite from each?
Greek - Hades; God of the Underworld
Roman - Luna/Diana; Goddess of the Moon
Egyptian - Isis; Goddess of Health, Marriage, and Wisdom
Norse - Loki; God of Fire and Mischief
The Greek and Roman one can switch back and forth (Pluto for Hades; Selene/Artemis for Luna/Diana)

23) Quirky thing you do when making cosplay?
I don't necessarily find some of my routine when making cosplay "quirky" but I do have one that is interesting. Most people know that I'm not really a fan of the pop/soda, Mountain Dew. I like MT Dew's Baja Blast and Pitch Black flavors but that's about it. However, when I'm making cosplay, I tend to drink it a lot- both regular MT Dew and Voltage.
Other than that, I tend to build a playlist for the character I'm working on and I listen to it on loop. Whether it is music from the actual show or music I just associate with the character or series, I play it.

24) Favourite book/novel series?
This is hard... I have a few. I'm really into fantasy- especially vampires, werewolves, faeries, etc. So I have 3 series I really enjoy: The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, Chronicles of Vladimir Todd by Heather Brewer, and The Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr.
I also started reading the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare and I do like them- I just need to get further into them.

25) Favourite characters from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit?
Harry Potter - Bellatrix LeStrange, Draco Malfoy, and Professor Trelawney
Lord of the Rings/Hobbit - Legolas, Thranduil, and Kili

So there you have it! My 25 facts... they may or may not be a bit nerdy.
Such a great way to open up the blog!

Hello People! ^ 0 ^

Hi! It's Taka Kagaku from Kagaku Cosplay, of course, and I am so excited to start this cosplay blog.

I had been sitting on the idea of running a blog such as this for some time now but never really had the initiative. Well, now I do!

This blog is going to be dedicated to a number of things that I feel are related to cosplay, such as:

1) WIP Dumps - This is where I will post a bunch of pictures of the aspects of a costume I am currently working on; select photos may have been posted on my Facebook page but will now include a nifty, more detailed explanation of what's going on!

2) Tutorials - If people request enough or if I just feel generous, I will do my best to provide detailed tutorials on how I made certain things!

3) Reviews - Be it lenses, wigs, accessories, or props; I can do reviews on the items I buy for costumes and sellers I bought them from (especially if I've bought from them more than once)!

4) Nerd Talk - Sometimes I just like to talk and geek out about certain things within the fandoms I love and the Facebook community tends to have a TL;DR attitude sometimes (for those who are new to the term like I was about 2 years ago, it originated on tumblr ((a site I have an account for but never use; may change that)) and it means "too long; don't/didn't read"). Luckily, with a blog, you're going in expecting an article with actual full sentences, paragraphs, and grammar- huzzah!

5) Cosplayer Feature - I look up to a lot of cosplayers- whether I know them personally or not- and I want to share their work with people!

6) Convention Write Ups - I love talking about conventions or other cosplay events I go to. I want to do more write ups about what happened at the convention; maybe include pictures of cosplays I saw and stuff I bought.

Now, a number of these posts could have videos to go along with them! I have a YouTube channel that is ran by my cosplay group and I hope to post more vlogs, surveys, and just plain old funny things on their with them, My cosplay group is collectively called Freaks of a Feather (Productions) that we abbreviate down to FOAF (fauf; ff-oh-ff for pronunciation help). We have to revamp the channel since we haven't used it in awhile but I hope that it too can come back with avengence since I have been able to keep my promise on using my FB page regularly.

I will be doing a formal introduction blog post later with the title "Introduction: 25 (Nerdy) Facts", But, for now, here is my convention plans for the rest of this year:
