The topic for today's challenge is "Your Most Recent Cosplay".
Considering my costume I'm currently working on isn't done and won't debut until March 12, I will be rewinding to Ohayocon where I debuted my first J-Rock costume in about 2.5 years! And it's the one I feel is better than all my attempts in the past...
[DOGMA] Ruki from the band, the GazettE!
I only really have a few photos of my DOGMA costume because I didn't get any sort of shoot done.
Originally, I was still planning to debut a new J-Rock costume to mark my progress in cosplay construction and it was going to be a different Ruki look... but, when the DOGMA look and album came out, I was just so enthralled with this look that I had to make it.
It is made entirely of black suiting and black lining with 3 different types of trims plus iron-on cross appliques (which were sewn on for stability). The necklace was made from gold chain and black silk cord and the wig is an AWESOME lace front from blackhairspray.com.
I ended up having to my an extra weft piece (also from blackhairspray) to help pull the ponytail up and add a cover-up on the clip.
I did make the cords dangling from my wrists but they just got caught up in everything so I left them out. Gloves were also left out because I have a love-hate relationship with them in cosplay, honestly.
the GazettE in their DOGMA look |
For those that know me fairly well, they know that the GazettE is my all time favourite band. I've been obsessed with them since I was about 14 (so going on 9 years roughly) and I have the singer's, Ruki, name in Katakana as a tattoo on my left wrist. I plan to expand on this tattoo and get another one in regards to the band as a whole.
I am MAJORLY PUMPED because I will be seeing them live for the first time on April 29 in New York City. This is like an early birthday present for me and I am eagerly counting down the days.
My goal for myself is to complete at LEAST 1 J-Rock/Visual Kei costume a year since there is not enough cosplayers of that media. We are a dying breed sadly and I want to bring back the scene into conventions while also making some pretty badass outfits.
It's one thing to bring a fictional character to life where you can improvise or cut some corners but it's extremely difficult to replicate a real thing.
DOGMA Ruki was certainly an adventure and he isn't 100% perfect but, dag-nabbit, he is pretty darn close!
Thanks for reading my nerdy jrock fangirl drabble and I'll see you tomorrow for Day 4 of the 30 Day Cosplay Challenge where I talk about My Cosplay Communities- where I go to talk about cosplay~!
